Avoiding Vital Proteins

Update – as of 9/2022 Vital Proteins Collagen tests negative for heavy metals. That does not change that they constantly have tested high for heavy metals in the past AND have questionable business practices which are reasons enough for one to avoid using any of their products.  Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides is one of the most popular collagen supplements on the market.

Although this isn’t a post on the benefits of collagen or what to look for, I have included collagen supplements that are better choices in this instagram reel.

When buying collagen:

  • Avoid flavors, sweeteners, additives, and heavy metals
  • Check COA for heavy metal testing results
  • Always look for grass-fed and pasture-raised cows
  • Look for Hydrolyzed form – for better absorption
  • Better collagen options include Perfect Supplements and Biooptimal Collagen.
  • Vital Proteins is not the only company with heavy metals; they are one of the most popular, and you should be aware before blindly purchasing.

If you are concerned about heavy metals in the collagen supplement you are using, reach out to the company and ask for their COA. Make sure numbers are well below the recommended daily limits or ideally aren’t detected.

If you currently use Vital Proteins Collagen, I would stop and find a better option such as Perfect Supplements or Biooptimal Collagen.

Do you currently use collagen and if so, how have you benefited from it?
