Why You Should Always Avoid GMOs

GMOs – Genetically Modified Organisms also known as genetic modification, genetic engineering, or bioengineering.

GMOs have been around since the mid-1990s and yet most people do not know which crops are truly genetically engineered. If you have been following me, you probably have them down, and if not, this post should help!

A few reasons why you should avoid GMOs:

  • -Not enough human safety studies
  • -Many GMOs are made to be herbicide tolerant and herbicides have a long list of harmful side effects.
  • -GMOs have increased the use of herbicides and pesticides
  • -GMOs have led to the creation of herbicide-tolerant weeds
  • -GMOs are filled with herbicides
  • Not all GMOs are created to withstand herbicides. The Arctic apple was produced to withstand browning, while the potato reduced bruising and acrylamide. Both are not necessary! Other GMOs are making their way to the market; I suggest regularly checking and making a note of all GMOs.

Many common foods may be made with GMOs (see below), it is important to always read the labels and look for the Non-GMO seal.

Monsanto, which was acquired by Bayer and the maker of Roundup (glyphosate herbicide) has paid billions in injury lawsuits due to their poisonous product. They have also tried desperately to block research on the safety of GMOs in the past. Glyphosate (Roundup) is one of the most widely used herbicides in the United States.

“The results of most studies with GM foods  indicate that they may cause some common toxic effects such as hepatic, pancreatic, renal, or reproductive effects and may alter the hematological, biochemical, and immunologic parameters”

Interesting fact: Over 70 countries have banned GMOs.
